Jack Fleming
Irish
Jack Fleming was Alister MacKenzie's construction foreman in America. An Irishman who joined MacKenzie's organization in 1919, he was sent to California in 1926 to supervise construction of the Meadow Club, and with Robert Hunter helped build Cypress Point, the Valley Club of Montecito, Green Hills, Pasatiempo and Sharp Park.
From 1932 he maintained San Francisco's municipal courses for the Parks and Recreation department while continuing to design — including the all-par-3 Golden Gate Park Golf Course (1951). The Fleming 9 inside Harding Park, added in 1961, is named for him.
