The best public golf course in San Francisco depends on the round you want. Start with TPC Harding Park for championship golf, Presidio for a wooded 18, or Lincoln Park for a shorter full round with Golden Gate Bridge views. For nine holes, choose Golden Gate Park, Fleming or Gleneagles.
Those six courses are inside San Francisco. Sharp Park is also owned by the city, but sits south of it in Pacifica; it gets a separate nearby recommendation below. A nine-hole course is a smaller time commitment, but it is not automatically easy. Gleneagles suits golfers who want a compact challenge. Golden Gate Park is the more natural starting point for someone who wants shorter shots; each player still needs their own equipment and a tee time.

Presidio adds a 3% park fee to green fees. Its weekday walking rates differ from the cart-inclusive examples, and parking is separate. Follow its rate page for eligibility and the final total.
City-course resident discounts generally require the SF Golf Resident Card. The city lists $139 for a new or renewed SF card as of July 1, 2026, valid for two years. A Pacifica card is valid for Sharp Park discounts only. Presidio publishes its own residency-proof rules; do not assume every course uses the same card.
TPC Harding Park: a championship 18
Harding is the choice when a full round is the main event of the day. Its Lake Merced setting and championship history distinguish it from the city’s shorter courses. It also lets a group pair an 18-hole round with practice on the same property. For a first visit, compare the live green fee with Presidio before deciding how much of the trip budget to spend on golf.
The official Harding rate page uses demand-based pricing. Reservations 8–30 days ahead for groups of 2–15 carry a separate, non-refundable $19 fee per player. Cart rental is $25 per golfer, and the course is cart-path-only. The operator asks golfers to check in 30 minutes before their tee time. Use its official tee sheet to price your date.
Presidio: an 18-hole round in wooded hills
Presidio offers public golf in the national-park landscape, with trees, elevation changes and a practice range. The public course and the private Presidio Golf & Concordia Club are separate visitor destinations. Public players should head to 300 Finley Road, not the club’s Presidio Terrace address.
Book on the public Presidio tee sheet. The operator charges $20 per player for reservations 8–30 days ahead. Singles should call 415-561-4661, extension 1. Lincoln Park: a shorter full round with bridge views
Lincoln is an 18-hole, par-68 course, not a nine-hole or par-3 course. Its 5,416-yard length makes a useful alternative to the larger layouts, but the hills, small greens and wind still demand care. Choose it when scenery and a full walk matter more to the plan than championship length.
The city’s Lincoln Park page links separate standard and resident booking paths and lists a $2-per-player fee for reservations eight or more days ahead. Friday counts as a weekend for pricing. Confirm the rate category before paying.
Golden Gate Park: nine holes of short-game golf
Golden Gate Park’s nine par-3 holes make it a useful choice when you want shorter shots or less golf between other city plans. The booking page offers reservations up to seven days ahead without a booking fee. Days 8–30 add a non-refundable $10 per player; green fees are paid at check-in. The rate page lists resident-card discounts and requires each player to have their own clubs, bag and putter.
Fleming: the executive nine at Harding
Fleming is a distinct nine-hole executive course on the Harding property. Choose it when the group wants a shorter round while keeping Harding’s practice facilities nearby. Select Fleming explicitly in the reservation flow so you do not accidentally book the 18-hole course.
The Fleming reservation policy allows booking up to seven days ahead without a fee. Days 8–30 add a separate, non-refundable $10 per player for groups of 2–15. That differs from Harding’s $19 advance fee. Check the live green fee for your category and day.
Gleneagles: a demanding nine at McLaren Park
Gleneagles is the recommendation for a golfer who wants nine holes with a challenge. Its slopes and uneven lies reward control. Nine holes here should not be read as a promise of an easy beginner round. The layout can also be played as two loops using different tees.
Use the Gleneagles course page for the record and the operator’s rates and prepaid tee times to reserve. Carts cost extra and availability is limited. Read the cancellation terms before purchase; the operator says sales become final within 24 hours of play.
Nearby: Sharp Park in Pacifica
Sharp Park is city-owned public golf south of San Francisco in Pacifica. Its coastal setting and Alister MacKenzie connection make it an option for a day that includes travel outside the city. Allow for the journey rather than treating it as another stop inside SF.
