Course History

The original 18-hole course at Silverado opened in 1955 and today forms the North Course. In 1966, Robert Trent Jones Jr. reworked the layout and added a second 18, cementing the resort's reputation as one of Northern California's premier golf destinations.

The North Course has a long PGA Tour pedigree. It hosted the Kaiser International Open Invitational from 1968 to 1976 and the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic from 1977 to 1980. Tour golf returned to Silverado in 2014, and the North Course has since served as the host venue for the resort's fall event, known as the Safeway Open, the Fortinet Championship, and most recently the Procore Championship.

The Design & Architecture

A classic parkland design, the North Course is defined by tree-lined fairways, gentle elevation changes and routing through stands of historic oaks. Milliken Creek, a tributary of the Napa River, meanders through the property to create numerous water crossings, while small, fast greens and crisp white bunkering reward precise approach play. The result is a shot-maker's course that stays true to its mid-century roots while holding up to tournament-level scrutiny.

Playing the Course

Measuring 6,793 yards to a par of 72 with a course rating of 73.1 and a slope of 138, the North Course offers a fair but demanding test. Accuracy off the tee matters more than raw distance, as mature trees, water and well-placed bunkers punish errant shots. Golfers of all abilities can enjoy the round from the appropriate tees, but strong ball-striking and a steady touch around the small greens are the keys to a good score.
