Course description

The maintained course record, presented separately from live booking and user reviews.

Threading through mature oak trees, rolling terrain, and numerous water crossings, the course pairs a genuine test of golf with the scenic beauty of California's most famous wine region. As part of a full-service resort, it offers golfers a relaxed yet rewarding round complemented by spa facilities, fine dining, and wine-country hospitality.

Course History

The South Course was added to Silverado in the mid-1960s, joining the resort's original North Course as part of an expansion led by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Together the two courses established Silverado as one of Northern California's premier golf destinations within the growing Napa Valley resort scene.

Over the decades the South Course has hosted professional competition, including Champions Tour events staged at Silverado from 1989 to 2002 under titles such as the Transamerica and the Napa Valley Championship. The course has been refined over the years, with later updates helping to keep the layout current for modern play.

The Design & Architecture

Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s South Course routes through rolling wine-country terrain framed by stands of mature oak trees. The design leans on a good mix of straight and dog-legging holes, with numerous water crossings and creeks that define strategy across the property. The rolling ground produces frequent uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies, while ponds guard several greens, rewarding accuracy and thoughtful positioning over raw power.

Playing the Course

Playing to 6,612 yards with a par of 72, a course rating of 72.3, and a slope of 133, the South Course offers a fair but engaging challenge for a wide range of skill levels. Water comes into play on several holes, including a pond that must be carried in front of the par-5 13th green and another crossing at the par-3 15th, while a creek winds through the closing stretch. The relatively relaxed pace and scenic setting make it a favorite for both serious golfers and those enjoying a casual wine-country round.
