Course History
Blackberry Farm Golf Course was built in 1962, designed by noted California golf course architect Robert Muir Graves. For its first three decades the course was privately owned, operating as a compact recreational golf facility on the wooded creekside property.
In 1991, the City of Cupertino purchased the property, and the course has since operated as a public, municipal facility. Today it remains part of the broader Blackberry Farm park and recreation area, continuing to serve local golfers and families as an accessible neighborhood course.
The Design & Architecture
Robert Muir Graves routed the nine holes along the banks of Stevens Creek, weaving them through mature trees to create a tranquil, wooded setting. The design favors accuracy over power: narrow, tree-lined fairways funnel play toward small, gently undulating greens, and subtle elevation changes add a quiet strategic challenge. Bunkering is minimal and strategically placed, with the occasional water hazard coming into play near the creek. At par 29 across just over 1,500 yards, it is a short, walkable layout built around par 3s with a couple of short par 4s.
Signature Holes
Blackberry Farm's nine holes break down as seven par 3s and two par 4s, and the scorecard's variety is its signature. The round is bookended by its stoutest one-shotters: the 1st and 9th are both par 3s of nearly 200 yards, asking for a long iron or hybrid threaded through the trees. The two par 4s — the 2nd at roughly 290 yards and the 4th at about 280 — are the only real chances to open the shoulders, though the narrow, tree-lined corridors reward position over power. In between, the short 3rd and 6th, each right around 100 yards, offer a wedge into a small green and a genuine birdie look — a fitting rhythm for a course built around the short game.
Playing the Course
With a par of 29 and a total length of 1,544 yards, Blackberry Farm is an executive-length course that plays quickly and welcomes golfers of every ability. Beginners and juniors can build confidence in a relaxed environment, while experienced players use the tight, tree-framed holes to sharpen their short game and iron accuracy. A course rating of 28.5 and slope of 93 reflect a forgiving scorecard, but the small greens and creekside setting reward a thoughtful, well-placed round. The gentle terrain makes it an easy and enjoyable walk.
