Course History
Jack Nicklaus selected this parcel of Livermore Valley wine country as the site of his first golf course in Northern California. Construction of the Signature Design layout began on Labor Day 1993, with Nicklaus personally involved in the detail of routing the holes through the surrounding vineyards and oak groves.
The Club at Ruby Hill opened in 1996 as the anchor of an exclusive residential and country club community. It has since remained a private, member-focused club known for its polished conditioning and its setting among more than 50 nearby vineyards.
The Design & Architecture
The par-72 course is a classic Nicklaus Signature Design, defined by all-weather Bermuda grass fairways framed by towering oaks and Nicklaus's signature wide, contoured Crenshaw bent grass greens. Numerous elevation changes, strategic bunkering and well-placed water features create a layout that demands thoughtful shotmaking, while sweeping vistas of the Livermore Valley reward players throughout the round.
Playing the Course
Stretching to roughly 7,400 yards from the Nicklaus tees with a course rating of 76.7 and a slope of 134, Ruby Hill is a serious championship test from the back markers. Five sets of tees on every hole let golfers of all ages and abilities find a comfortable challenge, with the generous fairways and contoured greens rewarding accurate approach play and a sharp short game.
