Course History

Golf has been part of the Rossmoor community since its founding in the mid-1960s. The Creekside Course opened in 1965 as part of the master-planned Rossmoor active adult community, designed by noted golf architect Desmond Muirhead. Together with the longer, hillier Dollar Ranch course, Creekside forms the pair of layouts that make up the Rossmoor Golf Clubs, which serve the residents of Walnut Creek's Rossmoor community and their guests. Over the decades the course has remained a cornerstone of daily life in Rossmoor, valued for its accessibility and its relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere.

The Design & Architecture

Desmond Muirhead laid out Creekside on the gentle valley floor of the Rossmoor property, creating a flat and comfortably walkable nine holes that contrast with the elevation changes of the adjacent Dollar Ranch course. Tice Creek meanders through the property and is most in play here on its namesake course, framing fairways and greens with water and mature trees. The result is a course that emphasizes precision and enjoyment over sheer length, rewarding accurate iron play while remaining forgiving enough for higher-handicap and senior golfers.

Playing the Course

At roughly 2,997 yards from the Blue tees to a par of 36, Creekside plays as an inviting nine that can be enjoyed as a quick loop or doubled up for a full round. Multiple tee options, ranging down to around 2,150 yards from the forward markers, let players of every ability find a comfortable challenge. The flat terrain makes walking easy, while Tice Creek and the surrounding trees keep the round interesting. With views of the East Bay hills all around, it is a course built for a relaxed, scenic day of golf.
