Rooster Run Golf Club

Rooster Run is a public 18-hole course on the east side of Petaluma. Fred Bliss shaped former pasture into rolling ground with creeks, lakes and a par-3 island green at No. 15. The current operator course page and scorecard put the men’s Tournament Black tees at 7,001 yards, par 72, 73.9 rating and 138 slope.

Course History

The City-hosted public-golf study lists Rooster Run as a 1998 opening designed by Fred Bliss. The NCGA 2026 directory prints “1998/1999” without defining the two milestones, so 1998 is best treated as the opening-year evidence rather than the date of every facility milestone. The club says about 370,000 cubic yards of earth were moved to shape the former pasture.

Design & Architecture

The club’s course description identifies three preserved creeks, two ancient oaks, six lakes and 39 bunkers. The contrast between broad, shaped ground and water near several landing areas is central to the round. The 2022 card places four par 3s, ten par 4s and four par 5s across the 18 holes.

Playing the Course

The longest tee is labeled “Tournament (Black)” on the club’s 2022 card, and the card says golf-shop approval is required to play it. The same Black 7,001/73.9/138 men’s figures are repeated on the current course table. The Blue tees are listed at 6,464 yards, while the Red tees are 5,139; select a tee using the club’s full card rather than mixing yardages and ratings from different rows.

15 is the short par 3 to an island green; the club’s hole-by-hole tour notes wind into the player’s face. No. 17 is a par 4 framed by a signature oak behind the green. These are course descriptions, not promises about today’s pin, wind or turf condition.

• The operator practice listing describes an all-grass range tee and two putting greens. The golf shop says it opens sunrise to sunset except Christmas.
