Course History

Rooster Run Golf Club opened in 1998 on the outskirts of Petaluma, California. To create the course, more than 370,000 cubic yards of soil were moved to transform a stretch of flat land into a varied layout of undulating hills, lakes and shaped fairways.

Since opening, the club has become a popular Sonoma County destination, valued for its excellent drainage that keeps it playable through the wet Northern California winter months and for its relaxed, welcoming public setting.

The Design & Architecture

Designed by Fred Bliss, the layout weaves in three creeks and preserves two ancient trees, and it features six lakes and the area's only island green. Thirty-nine fairway and greenside bunkers frame the holes, demanding thoughtful shot placement, while the engineered contours and superior drainage are hallmarks of Bliss's work here.

Playing the Course

Stretching to 7,001 yards from the championship tees at par 72, with a course rating of 74.2 and a slope of 135, Rooster Run offers a genuine test for low handicappers while remaining enjoyable from the forward tees, which play as short as roughly 5,100 yards. Water hazards, the island green and nearly forty bunkers keep every round engaging, and the bent grass greens reward accurate approach play.
