Course History

Moraga Country Club was established in the early 1970s as the centerpiece of a planned residential community in the Moraga valley, with the golf course opening in 1974. Renowned Northern California golf architect Robert Muir Graves routed the layout through the natural hills, canyons and creeks that run between Moraga and Orinda, using the dramatic terrain to shape a course that feels at home in its East Bay surroundings.

In the decades since, the club has grown into one of the East Bay's premier private communities, pairing its golf course with an active clubhouse, dining and social program. It remains a member-owned private club valued for its intimate, community-focused atmosphere.

The Design & Architecture

Robert Muir Graves crafted a compact, strategic layout that measures roughly 6,100 yards to a par of 71. Rather than demanding great length off the tee, the course places a premium on positioning and course management, weaving through hillsides, tree-lined corridors and creek crossings where no two holes are quite alike. Well-conditioned Poa annua greens and manicured fairways define the playing surfaces, and a Course Rating of 71.0 with a Slope of 128 reflects a test that is fair yet asks for thoughtful, committed shot-making.

Playing the Course

Because the course occupies a tight, hilly parcel, it is played as 18 holes over nine greens using separate tee complexes, so players approach each green from two distinct angles across the round. The result is a walk that keeps you engaged and thinking, with elevation changes, doglegs and canyon carries that reward accuracy over power. Practice facilities including a grass driving range, chipping areas and putting greens round out the experience for members warming up before a round.
