Course History

Mission Hills of Hayward opened in 1999 as an executive-length public course serving golfers throughout the East Bay. Built on a compact site off Industrial Parkway, it was conceived as an accessible facility where players of every ability could enjoy a full round without the time commitment of a championship-length layout.

In the years since, the course has become a fixture of the local golf scene, welcoming beginners, families, and seasoned players looking to fine-tune their approach and short game. Its combination of a driving range, practice facilities, and a friendly clubhouse has helped it endure as a popular Hayward-area destination.

The Design & Architecture

The course was designed by David A. Rainville, ASGCA, together with landscape architect Gary Bye, ASLA. Their executive layout features six par 3s ranging from roughly 92 to 164 yards and three par 4s spanning about 271 to 359 yards, for a total par of 30. Rather than emphasizing raw length, the design rewards accuracy and a sharp short game, with strategically placed bunkers and mature landscaping framing the holes.

Playing to 1,720 yards from the back tees with a course rating of 29.6 and a slope of 96, Mission Hills is a manageable and enjoyable test that emphasizes iron play and precision around the greens.
