Course History

Stonebrae Country Club opened in 2007 as the centerpiece of a residential community in the hills above Hayward. The following year the David McLay Kidd design joined the PGA Tour's Tournament Players Club network, branded first as TPC San Francisco Bay and then as TPC Stonebrae, before the club later returned to operating as Stonebrae Country Club.

From 2009 through 2019 the course hosted the Ellie Mae Classic (also known as the Stonebrae Classic) on the developmental Korn Ferry Tour, with the event skipping 2013 during construction of a new clubhouse. In 2016, Stephan Jaeger authored one of the tour's most famous moments here, shooting a record-setting 58 en route to a 72-hole scoring record of 250.

The Design & Architecture

David McLay Kidd, the Scottish architect behind Bandon Dunes and the Castle Course at St Andrews, routed Stonebrae as an American links-style layout that plays through a rugged, roughly 425-acre hillside site. Sweeping fairways framed by native grasses, roughly 65 bunkers, and firm, fast conditions give the course an adventurous, windswept character despite its inland, hilltop setting overlooking San Francisco Bay.

Playing the Course

Stretching to 7,188 yards with a 74.5 rating and 141 slope, Stonebrae is a genuine championship test. Dramatic elevation changes, exposure to Bay Area winds, and elevated tees that reward well-placed drives demand thoughtful strategy and precise iron play, while the panoramic hilltop views make even a demanding round a memorable one.
