Course History

Las Positas opened in 1966 as a municipal golf course serving Livermore and the greater Tri-Valley area. The original 18-hole regulation layout was designed by Robert Muir Graves, a prolific Northern California golf architect known for shaping affordable, playable public courses throughout the region.

The facility has grown into a 27-hole complex over the decades and underwent major renovation work completed around 2011-2012, which added and reworked several holes on the main course, rebuilt tee boxes, and improved drainage, cart paths, and landscaping. A separate nine-hole course rounds out the property.

The Design & Architecture

Robert Muir Graves laid out a classic parkland-style course that stretches to about 6,723 yards from the tips at par 72, carrying a course rating of 72.4 and a slope of 130. Water is a defining feature: ponds come into play on several holes across the front nine, while a creek winds through and crosses a number of holes on the back nine.
