Course History
Green Valley Country Club traces its roots to 1949, when a group of families set out to create a family-oriented club in Solano County and secured the property that would become the course. The layout was laid out by Elmer Borders, and the club opened for play in 1950, holding its first general membership meeting that spring. It has remained the only private country club in the county ever since.
In the late 1980s the course was renovated by noted golf course architect Robert Muir Graves, working alongside his protege Damian Pascuzzo, updating the original design while preserving its classic character.
The Design & Architecture
Green Valley is a classic old-style design set across roughly 148 acres of undulating terrain. Rather than relying on length, the course defends par with narrow, tree-lined fairways and small, firm, fast greens that place a premium on accuracy and touch. Elmer Borders' original routing was later refined by Robert Muir Graves and Damian Pascuzzo, whose updates modernized the challenge without erasing the course's traditional feel.
Playing the Course
Playing to a par of 72 over 6,449 yards with a course rating of 71.3 and a slope of 136, Green Valley is a manageable length that plays tougher than the yardage suggests. Tree-lined corridors and rolling ground force players uphill, downhill, and side to side, demanding thoughtful shot placement off the tee, while the small, quick greens reward a sharp short game. It is a course that favors the strategist over the big hitter.
