Course History

The golf course opened in 2005 on city parkland in Fremont's Central Park, adjacent to Lake Elizabeth. Owned by the City of Fremont and operated as a daily-fee facility, it was conceived as an accessible, in-town golf destination that could serve juniors, beginners, and busy players who want a full round without committing half a day. Its compact routing and modern practice amenities have made it a fixture of the East Bay's public golf scene since it opened.

Design & Architecture

The course was designed by celebrated architect Pete Dye, who applied his trademark eye for challenge to a small footprint. Rather than length, the layout relies on precise shotmaking: nine holes made up of five par 4s and four par 3s, with hazards, contouring, and Dye's signature demanding green complexes rewarding accuracy over raw power. The result is billed by the club as one of the most challenging nine-hole facilities in the area, yet it remains manageable and enjoyable for higher-handicap and developing players.

Playing the Course

At 1,989 yards to a par of 32 from the blue tees (with a shorter white/red set for a friendlier round), Fremont Park plays quickly, with the club noting that an average round takes under one hour and forty minutes. The par 4s ask for controlled tee shots and crisp approaches, while the four par 3s put a premium on club selection and touch around the greens. Walking is permitted, and the natural surroundings of Central Park, Lake Elizabeth, and the Fremont hills give the compact course an open, scenic feel. It is an ideal spot for a lunch-break nine, an evening practice round, or introducing new golfers to the game.
