Blue Rock Springs Golf Club (East)

Course History

Blue Rock Springs is one of Vallejo's long-standing golf destinations, and the East Course represents the newer of the club's two 18-hole layouts. It was built in the early-to-mid 1990s to the design of Robert Muir Graves, an architect celebrated for his work across Northern California. Owned by the City of Vallejo and operated as a public municipal facility, the course was routed to take advantage of the property's dramatic hillside terrain.

Since opening, the East Course has earned a reputation as the sterner test of the two courses at the facility, drawing local players and visitors alike who come for its combination of scenery, condition, and value in the North Bay.

The Design & Architecture

Robert Muir Graves used the site's rolling hills to shape a layout defined by elevation changes, narrow fairways, and strategically placed water hazards and bunkers. At 6,162 yards and par 70, the East Course is not long by modern standards, but its undulating greens and demanding tee shots put a premium on accuracy and course management rather than distance. The result is a compact yet exacting design that plays tougher than its yardage suggests.

Playing the Course

Golfers should be ready for a hilly walk and shots that call for precision off the tee, as errant drives can find trouble on the narrower holes. The reward comes in the views: many vantage points look out over the North Bay and Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, and on clear days players can glimpse the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. With a course rating of 70.0 and a slope of 127, the East Course offers a satisfying challenge for mid- to lower-handicap players while remaining playable for the broader public.
