Half Moon Bay (Old)

Half Moon Bay Golf Links’ Old Course is its 1973 Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane parkland layout. It works through tree-lined corridors and water hazards before reaching the Pacific at its final two holes. The separate Ocean Course is Arthur Hills’ later coastal layout. Course and history

The operator’s Old Course page identifies Palmer and Duane as its designers and dates the opening to 1973. It describes five tee sets, several doglegs, water hazards and a parkland routing. Its 18th is a par four along the cliff beside the Ritz-Carlton, while the Ocean Course finishes on a par five.

Playing the Old Course

The first hole is a par five; the inland holes reward placement around trees and water. The final turn, called Palmer Corner by the operator, joins the par-three 17th to the oceanfront par-four 18th. The Old Course requires riding carts. Old Course hole guide.

Booking and visit

The Old Course is open for public play. Choose Old Course on the operator’s Chronogolf booking page; the same booking page also lists Ocean Course, so check the selected layout. For reservations more than 30 days ahead, call the golf shop at (650) 726-1800; the operator says bookings can be made up to 120 days ahead and an added nonrefundable fee applies to advance reservations. The golf links are at 2 Miramontes Point Road. The operator lists putting greens, a short chipping area and practice bunker, but no full driving range. An Old Course video by Carson Joens Golf was published in November 2022; it shows an earlier visit, not current conditions.
