Course History

Diablo Creek Golf Course opened in 1963 as a municipal course owned by the City of Concord. The original layout was designed by prolific California golf architect Bob E. Baldock, who was responsible for dozens of courses across the western United States during that era.

The course was later reworked by respected architect Robert Muir Graves, refining the layout while retaining its accessible, community-oriented character. For more than six decades it has served East Bay golfers as a dependable, affordable public option.

The Design & Architecture

The course stretches to 6,896 yards from the back tees with a par of 71, and plays to a course rating of 73.5 and a slope of 127. The layout is framed by mature trees and incorporates several water features across the property. With Mount Diablo rising in the distance, the design blends natural foothill scenery with a fair, playable routing that rewards accuracy on its rye grass fairways and greens.

Playing the Course

Golfers of all abilities will find Diablo Creek approachable yet engaging. Well-kept fairways and greens, strategic water hazards, and gentle foothill terrain combine for an enjoyable round, while the on-site driving range makes it easy to warm up beforehand. The relaxed, welcoming municipal atmosphere makes it a favorite among East Bay locals.
