Course History
Golf has been played on the Corica Park site (formerly the Chuck Corica Golf Complex) in Alameda since 1927, with early design work attributed to noted architect William F. Bell. The Mif Albright short course is named in honor of a longtime local golf figure and has long served as the complex's approachable, family-friendly par-3 layout.
The current Mif Albright was reimagined by Marc Logan and the team at operator Greenway Golf, reopening in 2014 as part of the broader revitalization of Corica Park. That transformation, which also produced the Rees Jones-redesigned South Course and the Robert Trent Jones II North Course, earned national acclaim, and Golf Magazine ranked the Mif among the best par-3 courses in America.
The Design & Architecture
The Mif Albright packs plenty of variety into its nine all-par-3 holes, which range from about 75 to 147 yards. Marc Logan's design leans on rolling terrain, well-conditioned greens, and thoughtful hazard placement to reward crisp wedge and short-iron play. Compact and walkable, the routing sits alongside the Lucius Bateman Driving Range, making it easy to combine practice with a quick loop. The 2014 rebuild gave the course large, undulating bentgrass greens that roll fast and true.
Signature Holes
The longest hole on the card, the 147-yard 3rd, is the Mif's standout test: the tee shot must negotiate a semi-forced carry over a stream, with trees guarding the right side of the green. The 140-yard 7th also demands a proper swing, where trees down the right can force players to work the ball toward a back-right pin.
The closing 9th, at 126 yards, may be the trickiest target of all — an extremely narrow green with water along the left side and thick grass just right of the putting surface. At the other end of the spectrum, the 75-yard 2nd is the shortest hole on the course and a genuine birdie chance for anyone who controls their wedge distance.
Playing the Course
With every hole a par 3, the Mif Albright is all about precision and touch rather than length. Rounds move quickly, making it ideal for beginners building confidence, juniors learning the game, seniors, and low-handicappers dialing in their scoring clubs. Whether played as a full round or a casual outing with friends, it delivers a fun, low-pressure test that still challenges your distance control and green reading.
