Course History

CordeValle opened for play in 1999 as the centerpiece of a secluded luxury retreat in the hills south of San Jose. Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s routing was laid out across protected natural terrain, and the course quickly earned national recognition, drawing praise from publications such as Golf Digest and Conde Nast Traveler.

The club built a strong championship pedigree, hosting the PGA Tour's Frys.com Open from 2010 through 2013. In 2016 it staged the U.S. Women's Open, won by Brittany Lang in a playoff over Anna Nordqvist, cementing CordeValle's reputation as one of Northern California's premier tournament venues.

The Design & Architecture

Robert Trent Jones Jr. routed the course through rolling hillsides, canyons and wetlands, using roughly 150 feet of elevation change and the site's mature oak trees and natural water hazards to shape the challenge. With no surrounding real estate development, the design keeps the focus on the landscape, offering four sets of tees so the layout can flex from a demanding championship test to a playable resort round.

Playing the Course

Stretching to 7,360 yards from the tips at a par of 72, CordeValle rewards accuracy off the tee and precise approaches into firm, contoured greens. The signature par-3 6th stands out, demanding a well-struck tee shot across a ravine to a well-protected green. Elevation changes and natural hazards keep even low-handicap players engaged, while the multiple tee options make the course enjoyable for a wide range of abilities.
