Gene Bates is an American golf course architect with a wide-ranging portfolio of designs and renovations, including a longtime design partnership with PGA Tour star Fred Couples. On the Monterey Peninsula he led the acclaimed 2008 redesign of the Bayonet and Black Horse courses in Seaside.
